Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a data communication standard that creates separate data paths for specific sequences of packets. Each packet is identified by a label that is encapsulated into each packet. The main limitation on bandwidth speeds available is the distance from the customer premise to the local telephone company central office.
